CBD Studies Around MS & Other Auto-Immune Disorders

CBD Studies Around MS & Other Auto-Immune Disorders

The immune system of your body protects you from disease and infection. But, when you're struggling with an autoimmune disorder, it causes your immune system to attack the healthy cells in your body by mistake. Autoimmune disorders might affect other parts of your body as well. If this occurs, you'll be suffering from a lot of symptoms.

Around 400,000 individuals in the U.S. are presently living with multiple sclerosis (MS). This is a type of autoimmune disease where the immune cells in your body attack a fatty substance known as myelin in your nerves. Those with MS often experience common symptoms, such as:

      • Cognitive dysfunction
      • Balance disorders and gait
      • Muscle spasticity
      • Pain
      • Fatigue

Some therapies today don't relieve MS symptoms sufficiently and conventional immunosuppressive medications come with potentially damaging, maybe even life-threatening side effects.

      Autoimmunity and CBD

Many individuals struggling from autoimmunity and chronic illness are looking for relief from holistic and natural alternatives. CBD is one natural alternative for autoimmune suppression that's gaining increased momentum.

Depending on the disease, symptoms of an auto immune disorder can leave patients struggling with any level of pain in their muscles, fatigue, uncontrollable muscle movements and tics and more.

While it's important you have a strong immune system to stay healthy, it can be just as damaging as a compromised immune system as it is to have an overactive immune system. Because of the various symptoms of MS, many medications are used for easing these symptoms, but many have serious health risks.

Some research by Frontiers in Neurology showed CBD's impact on mobility in individuals with MS. This research shows CBD might help mobility in people with MS by potentially reducing:

      • Pain
      • Fatigue
      • Depression
      • Spasticity

Another study that recently examined CBD for autoimmune encephalomyelitis in MS shows CBD could help with treating MS by targeting a number of anti-inflammatory pathways. The findings, more specifically, show CBD's potential ability to manipulate anti-inflammatory myeloid-derived suppressor cells positively to improve autoimmune diseases like MS.

The real-life, personal experiences of individuals with MS also show the substantial potential benefits CBD use has for MS. For example, an editor from multiplesclerosis.net, Devin Garlit, and his multiple sclerosis patient, emphasizes his positive associations with hemp-derived CBD supplements. The hemp plant has a decent amount of CBD with very little THC levels. According to Devin, when taking hemp-derived CBD each day, his body is better off.

He claims to experience less spasticity, less pain and less fatigue with CBD use and says he's been more active and out more after using CBD supplements and oil for eight months. He claims taking CBD for his autoimmune-related MS has made a big difference in his life.

As of now, there isn't a cure for MS, but there are treatments that can help slow the disease's progression and ease the symptoms. Some individuals, however, may find CBD helpful as an addition to their wellness routine.
