How To Choose Your CBD

With the growing market of CBD, sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what you’re getting and how to choose.  Since the industry is relatively new, there has not been many standards set for quality control.  Labels can lack information, or maybe you don’t even know what the given information means.

Here are a three questions to ask to help you choose high-quality CBD products:

Where & How Was It Grown?
The quality of the plants used for CBD can have a direct impact on the quality of the CBD.  The hemp plant, like many other plants, can absorb toxins from the ground it is grown in, so quality control begins in the soil.  Some toxins are used for fertilizer and bug prevention, and are sprayed on the plant.  Many industrial hemp farms are overseas, which means there are different standards for soil and air quality, which can ultimately effect the final product.  Finding a naturally-grown and organic source of hemp can increase the purity of the CBD that is extracted.  A toxin-free plant can help keep the CBD toxin-free!  Our hemp plants are all naturally grown in Colorado.

What Kind of Plant Did It Come From?
There is a difference in concentration of CBD in various hemp plants.  While industrial hemp can be used for textiles like plastics and cloth, typically these plants are not very high in CBD.  High quality CBD is harvested from plants with a high CBD count and low THC count.  The US requires all products sold as CBD to have less than .3% THC concentration.  There are specific strains that are notably high in CBD and low in THC, just like the plants we help cultivate for our CBD products.

What’s the Purity of Your CBD Isolate?
Most “pure” CBD products are made from CBD Isolate or Full Spectrum CBD Distillate.  To learn more about the differences, read our article on Isolate v Distillate.  With quality CBD products, you can typically ask for the test results that show the quality of the CBD used.  For example, Fully Activated CBD offers 99.6% pure CBD isolate, and uses it in all pure CBD products.  You can see our test results here!  We use this isolate in our Pure CBD Tinctures and Pure CBD Capsules.  Extraction of CBD can also play a role in quality control.  Make sure you choose naturally extracted CBD for the highest quality!
