Medical Research on the Effects of CBD for Anxiety

You know the feeling. You’re on a deadline at work, or you just received an unexpected bill in the mail, or perhaps your child just went to her first day of school…ever. Your palms are sweaty, you’re short of breath, your chest feels tight and it’s hard to concentrate. This is anxiety, and you’ve felt it before. Sometimes you feel it every day of the week.

Anxiety gets a bad rap, but it’s actually an evolutionary response designed to help us react to threats to our safety, welfare, or environment. Anxiety can motivate us to avoid danger, to perform better, or to approach a difficult situation and resolve it.  It’s when anxiety starts to interfere with our daily activities that it can become problematic. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), characterized by persistent and excessive worry about things such as money, health, family, or work, is just one of many anxiety disorders recognized by the American Psychiatric Association.

Anxiety and anxiety-related disorders affect a huge segment of our population. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 19% of US adults 18 and older experienced an anxiety disorder in the past year, and 31% of adults 18 and older have experienced an anxiety disorder at some time in their lives. That’s a lot of folks like you and me! With such a prevalence of anxiety disorders, researchers are constantly looking for the best treatment.

These days, anxiety disorders are often treated with a combination of cognitive therapy and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This treatment can be effective, but not everyone responds well to the latter. Side effects of SSRIs include drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, insomnia, diarrhea, nervousness and dizziness.

Fortunately, early research shows promising signs that CBD may be an effective alternative treatment for many anxiety disorders. While researchers are not yet certain how CBD works to alleviate anxiety-related symptoms – some theorize that CBD oil may influence receptors in the brain involved in the modulation of serotonin, while others believe that CBD may interact with various ion channels in the brain to produce a therapeutic effect – the studies conducted so far certainly demonstrate a level of effectiveness.

Further research is currently being conducted. In the meantime, CBD has been used for years as a self-treatment for anxiety, from everyday worries to the more worrisome disorders. According to a 2018 survey published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, almost 62 percent of cannabidiol users reported that they used CBD to treat a medical condition, with the top three conditions being pain, anxiety, and depression. The internet is filled with success stories from users of CBD that have not only alleviated anxiety itself, but also other symptoms such as insomnia and pain.

Humans are not the only ones that may benefit from CBD’s potential ability to alleviate anxiety. Dogs also have the receptors that aforementioned research suggests are positively affected by CBD treatments. According to PetMD, a survey published in the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association found that 72% of the people surveyed reported using a hemp product for their pet, with 64% reporting that they were certain it helped their pets. Our furry friends are family, and if CBD oil might help alleviate their fear of thunder, why not?

Here at Fully Activated CBD, we’ll continue watching the research as it continues to expound the many beneficial effects of CBD oil as a treatment for anxiety. In 2018, the research really started to pick up, and we are excited to see what 2019 will bring!

Natural, High Quality CBD For My Pets and Me

Why wouldn’t you want to treat your pets as well as you treat yourself? At Fully Activated, we create yummy pet treats and tinctures for our furry friends and use the same standards as we do for our human products. This means that Buca Biscuits, our CBD dog treats, are organic & GMO-free, and each biscuit contains exactly the amount of CBD as stated.
Precision and quality control is very important to us. We only use the best ingredients from organic sources, and we create everything in small batches – each time. Other products may not be clear on where they are coming from or how they’re being made, the health of our pets and our customers is of utmost importance to us. Many real life experiences and several studies have proven that animals (most notably, dogs) can potentially experience similar benefits from CBD that humans feel.
Research on pets and the use of CBD is still new, but the evidence is extremely positive so far. As Gary Richter, DVM, says, “animals can benefit…for many of the same reasons it helps people – for pain, seizure control, gastrointestinal disorders, anxiety-related issues.”
We use CBD as a preventative daily treatment and on specific ailments for our petts and have for more than a decade. Since our pets have endocannabinoid systems, just like we do, it only makes sense.

4 Tips for CBD Dosages

How do you know how much CBD to take?
Well, there’s not a standard or straightforward answer to this common question.  Everyone is different and we are not medical professionals so we cannot offer specific dosage solutions, but we’re happy to offer examples and information that can help you decide what regiment is best for you and your needs.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant.  The most common cannabinoid is THC, which will give you the feeling of being “high”, unlike CBD.   THC is typically the most abundant cannabinoid in a cannabis plant, while CBD is the second most common, with the exception of hemp plants (like ours!) that have been crossed to offer high CBD with only the slightest bit of THC.  You can choose Full Spectrum CBD products that offer a wide variety of cannabinoids like CBD and THC, or choose a Pure CBD product that only contains CBD isolate with zero THC or other cannabinoids.  The difference in Full Spectrum or Pure may also slightly change the effects of the dosage you choose.

Best Practices

5:10 The average recommended dose is typically about 5mg of CBD per 10lbs of body weight.  This rule is applicable to both humans and pets alike.  For example, if you weigh 150lbs, divided by 10 is 15, multiplied by 5mg is 75mg.  This can vary greatly depending on body type, tolerance, and level of pain.  Someone with high levels of chronic pain may need more than someone looking for a more preventative approach.

Start Low and Slow Your best bet when beginning a CBD regiment is to start with a low dosage and work your way up until you reach your desired effect or relief.  If you’re nervous at all about how it may affect you, start even lower and work your way up.  If you have stronger pain, it might take more than the mentioned dose to help alleviate some of your symptoms.

Less but More Decreasing the amount of your dose while increasing the frequency may also solve some issues for your trial period.  For example, instead of taking all 75mg at once, break the dosages into three doses of 25mg over the course of the day.  This will help overall absorption of the CBD and a more sustained presence in your bloodstream.

Quality over Quantity All CBD is not created equal.  The quality of the plants from which CBD is harvested is very important.  Our hemp plants are naturally grown and have been crossed over and over to produce high levels of CBD.  This quality will make a difference versus someone who produces CBD hemp oil that offers no specific concentration of CBD on the label.

Our Founder’s Fully Activated CBD Story

Welcome to Fully Activated!
We’re so glad you’re here and that you’ve chosen to trust us with your various CBD needs!  We want to share our personal story of our experience with CBD, how Fully Activated came to be, and why we believe our products are unmatched.
Our founder, Nick, has experienced chronic pain most of his life.  As he jumped from medical professional to medical professional searching for a solution to his pain, he was frequently misdiagnosed and found himself looking for something more.
After deciding to take his health into his own hands, he found CBD…
At the time, he was helping his mother with her dog rescues and noticed that several of these foster animals also had issues from skin infections to joint problems and emotional stress.  He began to take CBD for his own needs and started their foster pets on a regular regiment.  He quickly saw improvements in his own pain, as well as, the quality of life and improved conditions for their beloved furry friends.
One of the largest issues he encountered was the consistency and quality of the CBD he found.  Motivated by his new found pain-remedy, he chose to move to Colorado to search for a solution & eventually grow his own high-quality CBD hemp plants and create his own products.

“I couldn’t accept how the majority of CBD companies were treating people and more importantly our pets!  I saw too many people and too many animals in situations where they needed love, genuine help and compassion… but instead we were being treated as sources of income by our doctors and vets.” – Nick, Fully Activated

After moving to Colorado, he realized how hard it was to truly find consistent, high-quality CBD hemp plants.  But, it didn’t take long for him to connect with his hemp-growing counterpart!  With a chemist background and a love for genetics, Nick knew this man was his chance to create something great to share with the world.  His partner offered a hemp farm approved by the state of Colorado and the magic began!
As the farm grew, the two tested the CBD content of the plants and began crossbreeding the highest concentration plants with other high concentration plants to produce giant outdoor hemp plants with high volumes of CBD.  This genetic crossing has created the ‘proprietary blend’ of high-quality CBD that Fully Activated uses today!  While the evolution of these plants never stops, only the best strains with less than .3% THC are used.  The Colorado Department of Agriculture visits the farm regularly to test the plants, and they consistently pass with flying colors.  Typically, if the crop exceeds the <.3% THC then it is condemned and, sometimes, even burned to prevent distribution.  However, due to careful and attentive crossbreeding, the farm has never had to waste a crop!
Once the hemp plants are mature, they are taken to processing and the products are all created within 20 miles of the farm.  The naturally grown, locally sourced hemp is used to create tinctures, salves, isolate, vape juice, dog treats, capsules, body balms, and more.  We’ve heard great feedback from happy customers and would love to give you the chance to experience a higher quality of life.  We’re happy to discuss our various products and answer any questions you may have regarding CBD and Fully Activated.

who we are

Heres a little about who we are and why sharing plant medicine knowledge is so important to us. Big thanks to all who take a few minutes to read our little blog, hopefully you’ll take something away from it!
We’ll start with who we are:
After years of misdiagnoses and being over prescribed pharmaceuticals for phantom conditions, Nick decided to take control of his own health. Combining a gluten free diet with little to no processed sugars, replacing pharmaceuticals with plant medicine and regular physical activity, Nick was able to redirect his health and regain his quality of life.
With an engineering background it only made sense that he would start production of his own products to ensure quality, purity and cleanliness for his family, friends and himself. Shortly after Fully Activated began, Courtney, a long time friend from a similar industry joined Nick in Colorado to lend her skills and knowledge to the cause and the company. It didn’t take long before both Nick and Courtney realized they had found a true calling, not only in life, also in love.
Now, we are a husband and wife team that together have almost 30 years experience in the marijuana industry ranging from cultivation to genetic development. We’ve merged our ideas of plant medicine and a preventative lifestyle to offer products that can be utilized daily by anyone in need, anywhere.
